Ricky Rubio

Gorgui Dieng

Minnesota Timberwolves

2015-16 Season Record: 29-53 (+13 wins from 2014-15)

Departures:

SF Tayshaun Prince

PF Kevin Garnett--> Retired

PF Damjan Rudez--> Magic

F/C Greg Smith

Sure, I don't see the Timberwolves missing Rudez and Smith all that much in their already loaded frontcourt, but the loss of Kevin Garnett looms huge for the franchise. He gave the fans a reason to come back to games other than the excitement the next generation has brought such as Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns. Prince gave a nice mentorship to Wiggins, Zach LaVine, and Shabazz Muhammad as the starting SF, but he doesn't have much left in the tank anymore.

Additions:

PG John Lucas III (Puerto Rico)

G/F Brandon Rush (Warriors)

C Cole Aldrich (Clippers)

C Jordan Hill (Pacers)

Cole Aldrich had a secretly great year off the bench for the Clippers, something he hasn't seen too much of as a former 10th pick. He will now back up Towns and Dieng at C, as wil lformer Laker and Pacer Jordan Hill. Brandon Rush leaves the Warriors to provide some shooting touch to a Wolves team that desperately needs it.

Draft Picks: PG Kris Dunn (5th)

Team Needs: Starting SG; Backup SG, SF

The scenario that occurred on draft night was one I had foreseen on my mock drafts, especially if the Celtics took Jaylen Brown, Dragan Bender, or another similar player over Kris Dunn. However, the Wolves get the benefit of Dunn slipping to #5, as he can now back up stud Ricky Rubio. Dunn's experience as a college junior should also help his transition as Wiggins and LaVine enter their third years and Towns his sophomore campaign.

Player Decisions:

PG John Lucas III (.98 million non-guaranteed)--> Cut

As much as I appreciate the team adding some guard depth, I was expecting them to add more off guards along the wing alongside Wiggins. Lucas has not played an NBA minute since the 2014-15 season and I expect that trend to continue in relatively short order, especially as 3 PGs already constitute the rotation in Rubio, Dunn, and Summer League MVP Tyus Jones.

Draft and Stash Prospects:

PF Bojan Dubljevic (1st)

C Henk Norel (3rd)

F/C Lior Eliyahu (23rd)

C Paulao Prestes (43rd)
