NBA Draft Stash Rankings

Much like Major League Baseball, the NBA has some prospects that require some extra seasoning or experience before the NBA club will sign them. Some prospects may only need a year while others wait a decade! While there are success stories like Manu Ginobili, there are bitter failures, like the Magic picking Fran Vazquez with the 11th pick in 2005 (he still hasn't made it to the NBA due to signing huge contracts overseas). This can be a gamble for GMs to make, but the majority of the great teams have solid foundations overseas that call a prospect over every year or two, a model fledgling teams like the 76ers and Timberwolves have been emulating recently. Besides, even if these players never make it to the NBA, teams will use them as trade chips if they have nothing else they would like to give up.

Without further ado, I give you my Top 50 draft-and-stash prospects. A few quick notes:

1) This version, unlike earlier versions, has introduced a new balancing of the leagues. Before, I assumed all overseas leagues and the D-League were of equal strength. However, I now use Nylon Calculus' ranking of every league around the world and gave a percentage boost respective to each league's point ranking. I now also use regression to balance out these rankings to determine age, position, etc.

2) While I give the team in control of each prospect in terms of rights, this doesn't automatically mean they were the team that drafted them. Some prospects have been traded upwards of 5 times throughout their career, so assume nothing!

3) The new positions I give each player are the positions they are currently playing with their team overseas. This does not mean this is the position they will play in the NBA.

4) No players have been called up to the NBA this season.
